Released: May 21st
Label: Hot Fruit Recordings
After putting an end to the seventeen year life of one of the most celebrated Britpop bands of the 90’s Supergrass, Gaz Coombes is ready to release material from his debut solo album Here Comes The Bombs, out on May 21st via Hot Fruit Recordings. One of the first tracks to drop is Hot Fruit, a track about the wonders of a certain part of lady (heehee).
While not sounding as fleshed out as Supergrass or even The Hot Rats, Hot Fruit still maintains a lot of the energy that has been present throughout Gaz’s guitar work and vocal delivery. The guitar riff is memorable here and has a certain slinky quality to it which easily fits in tight with its lyrical counterpart, which is good.
The Supergrass fan in me just wishes for them to have stuck around long enough to complete and release the new album they were working on Release The Drones. But I will listen to Gaz Coombes solo material as it could pretty much just be the same thing. So while (for now) Supergrass has been laid to rest, at least we still have the main man behind it making new music for us all to enjoy.
