Not long after the release
of the fantastic Slush Fund Blues EP which I cannot praise enough, Streaming
Lights have pulled together a prototype of what their official debut album may sound
like. It’s an album comprised of 18 months worth of material, ranging from all
the songs featured on the previous EP, as well as even older songs in their
discography.
Streaming Lights plan to
head into the studio around summertime to introduce their new sound to their old
material. I think this is a great idea to rerecord some of the older songs
because they sound a little too different to be distinguished as a Streaming
Lights song. The old sound is a little more indie based, with less electronics
and more of a focus on guitar riffs. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with
that formula, but the songs would sound a lot better with the beefed up sound,
fun factor and massive energy consistently present on Slush Fund Blues EP.
However tracks such as Cut
Of Your Jib and It’s A Mystery are both great songs and I think they won’t need
the recorded treatment as they capture the Streaming Lights’ new sound
perfectly. I cannot wait to hear how the album will sound once it’s been
rerecorded and officially released, but for now, you can hear it’s prototype
below.
