Foxygen - Make It Known

Released: 24th May 2012
Label: Jagjaguwar

Foxygen is the latest signing from respectable indie label Jagjaguwar. It comprises of songwriting duo Sam France and Jonathan Rado. Make It Known is the first track to be dropped by Foxygen in anticipation for debut album Take The Kids Off Broadway, out 24th July. It is definitely a track to fall in love with, just brilliant.

With dramatic lyrics, vocal deliveries and instrumentation that changes up every few seconds, Make It Known is almost as if a Broadway performance has been compacted into nearly 5 minutes and mashed together. From the beginning, the muddy guitar and wailing synth make way for Sam France’s deep and dramatic Jagger-esque vocal, already detailing one of the many influences involved in Make It Known, which comes across as incredibly creative and eccentric.

The instrumentation begins to introduce a swelling horn section alongside the guitar and synth and drums, this time kicking things up a gear. With a liberating “TALK TALK TALK” section and double vocals played at the same time, Make It Known quickly evolves into a crazy, yet very bright and colourful listen, becoming instantly memorable and fantastic.

There are influences from The Kinks and The Doors in here too, and while it makes it sound as if Make It Known will sound like every other song influenced by these guys Foxygen have completely added a unique twist to it instead. It’s phenomenal, and easily one of the best tracks of the year. I cannot wait to hear Foxygen’s debut album Take The Kids Off Broadway, out July 24th via Jagjaguwar Records.
