Released: 5th June 2012
Label: Disques Hives
One of my favourites and
one of the most celebrated garage rock bands The Hives will drop their fifth
album Lex Hives on the 5th June, a day after my birthday, and it
will be their return to music after a 5 year break. It will be released on
their own label Disques Hives. However, you can check out the first single Go
Right Ahead here at Rolling Stone.
It is an absolutely
stonking listen. From the ELO talkbox intro to the undeniably badass yell from
Howlin’ Pelle Almquist, Go Right Ahead sets off on a pace that confirms The
Hives have not lost any steam or energy during their break from the music
scene. As to be expected from any of The Hives’ singles, it features an
extremely catchy hook of some sort, whether that be guitar riff (Hate To Say I
Told You So), bass riff (Walk Idiot Walk) or vocal hook (Tick Tick Boom). This
time the repeated Go Right Ahead is the device used to get the song in your
head quicker than the drums can beat it into you.
Go Right Ahead is an
intense listen, but brilliant all the same. This is definitely easy to
recognise as a Hives song for sure. I absolutely cannot wait to hear Lex Hives,
which is out 5th June on Disques Hives Records.
